Weihai, a well-known port, tourism city and coastal open city, has distinguished itself as the first State-Level Environmental City in China, a State-Level Model City for Environment Protection, a State-Level Garden City, one of top 40 cities with regard to investment environment as well as one of top 50 cities in terms of comprehensive economic throughout the country. . Weihai exercises jurisdiction over three county-level cities (Roncheng, Wending and Rushan) and 4 districts (Huancui District, Hi-Tech Torch Development Zone, Economic & Technological Development Zone and Industrial New Park). It covers an area of 5,436 km2£¬ of which the urban proper covers 731 km2. Its total population is 2.48 million including urban population of 550,000. . Weihai is located at the eastern tip of Shandong Peninsula between 36¡ã41¡ä¡ª 37¡ã35¡ä North Latitude and 121¡ã11¡ä¡ª 122¡ã42¡ä East Longitude. It is surrounded by ocean water on three sides and connected with the continent on the other side. To the east, it faces the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese Archipelago across the sea. To the north, it faces the Liaoling Peninsula of China. It has long been called the ¡°Gate & Key to Beijing and Tianjin¡±. . With distinctive four seasons and agreeable climate, Weihai features the Temperate Marine Climate. Its annual average temperature is about 12.1¡æ. The non-frost period lasts 143.2 days. The annual average precipitation is 800mm and annual sunshine time is 2,516 hours. . Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone is a state-level development zone approved by the State Councial on Oct 21,1992. The administrative area is 194 km2, including the programmed area of 36 km2 and the initial area of 11.88 km2. There are 10 administrative bureaus, 3 sub-district offices and 94 administrative villages under its jurisdiction. It has a total population over 100,000. In the Zone, there are Industrial Park, Export Processing Zone, Bonded Area, Finance and Trade District, Residential District, Travelling and Recuperative District. With good conditions for working, living, and entertaining within one area, the Development Zone has become an ideal place for investment and business. . Since the establishment of the Zone, over 2,000 projects have been introduced with the total investment of 20 billion RMB yuan, among which over 700 projects are foreign-funded enterprises with total investment of 2.7 billion USD, contractual use of foreign capital 1.8 billion USD and actual use of foreign capital 950 million USD¡£ The investment comes from more than 20 countries and regions, including Korea, Hong Kong, USA, Japan, UK, India, Belgium, etc. Taking foreign-invested enterprises as mainstay, 8 pillar industries including automobile machinery, electronics, chemical, medicine, textiles, foodstuff and building material have been formed. A batch of large scale projects with high level have been established and put into operation.
